Date: Saturday, 19 September 2026
City / Region: North Dundas, Ontario
Weather: 8 degrees in the morning and up to 14 on the way home today. Mostly in the car.
Morning Summary
Woke up this morning rarin’ to go. We went downstairs for breakfast, tea, and coffee, and set out on our way. On the road by about 8:24 am.
Traffic was surprisingly light going through (underneath) Montréal. We stayed on the 20 Ouest to get over to the 401 towards Toronto.
We made a stop about two hours into our drive at a Starbucks to get some coffee and use the facilities. Maggie got to stretch her legs too. Then, it was back in the car to finish our drive home.
Afternoon Summary
We arrived home around 1:15 pm. We did stop for gas at Guy Fuels so our car would be filled up for any errand runs tomorrow.
We unpacked the car, started laundry, collected the mail, and started sorting through everything.
Shelley wasn’t feeling well again, so I did all the driving today for us. As a reward, I got to relax downstairs and watched a documentary. Then, I indulged with a Carling beer and a cigar out on the deck outside.
Evening Summary
Shelley prepared some supper for herself. I wasn’t hungry so nothing for me. Maggie seems happy to be home and was lounging most of the late afternoon and evening. Poor little thing.
Now, even though it’s 8:20 pm, we’re nestled in bed ready for sleep and see what tomorrow brings.
Daily Highlights
- Our best moment today was finally arriving home!
- Our biggest surprise was how little construction and traffic there was for us on our way back from Québec City!
- We learned that two weeks is just the right amount of time for us to be away from home base on a road trip. It’s different if you’re going overseas, or on a cruise or extended holiday at a destination. But hopping from car to hotel to car to hotel etc… for two weeks is the max.
Logistics
- It was just over four hours of driving to get from Québec City to home. Pretty respectable.
- We bought gas at home at Guy Fuels. We did buy some coffee and their ‘bagel bites’ on the road.
Closing Thoughts
We agreed that we had a stupendous time on our Atlantic Road tour. We sure packed in a lot and made the most of our days. Even today on the road we were already reminiscing about some of the places and experiences we had on our trip. Given the chance, there are a few hotels we would definitely go back to. And, of course, there are places visited that we would re-visit in a heart beat.
We hope that those of you who have followed us these two weeks appreciate the time spent putting this together. Shelley and I love to record our trips so that we can lock in the memories and anchor them with photos and such.
Thank you all for joining us on our journey.
