Eric’s Homemade Hammer-gers

There’s nothing like a really tasty homemade hamburger to toss on the ol’ grill on a muggy summer afternoon. These burgers are easy to make and full of flavour.

Ingredients

2 lbs of medium and lean ground beef; mixed
1/4 tsp of liquid smoke
2 eggs
2 tbsp oat flour (or potato starch)
2 tbsp onion flakes
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp (plus a wee bit more) whole cracked pepper

Method

1. In a large mixing bowl, add your meat. Combine liquid smoke, eggs, flour, onion flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well with your hands.

2. Place two sheets of kitchen paper; wet, on a flat surface. Place your plastic cutting board on top. This way, your board won’t slip away on you while you’re working on it.

3. Place your well mixed meat mixture on the board and with your hands, shape into a rectangle that stands about 1” tall.

4. With a long kitchen knife, mark your meat into however many sections you want to make your burgers from. I used eight sections (in the photo).

5. Take a section of meat and fashion into burger patties. Place on a plate or tray.

6. Let the meat rest for 20 mins before grilling. This would be a good time to start the BBQ to preheat it.

7. Grill your hamburgers until properly cooked through. If possible, turn your burgers only once – but this is not a deal breaker.
