Morning Sugars

No, I’m not speaking about the white Wonder bread with a hint of butter and sugar sprinkled on it for breakfast. That ‘was’ something I used to eat as a kid. Sugar sammiches. Can you imagine? Wow.

No, I’m speaking about morning blood sugar levels. If you’ve read my first entry in my “Diet and Fitness” area of this blog, you will have seen a book by Dr. Boz “The Keto Continuum”. It’s from there that I learned the importance of determining where your body is at by using real data. That means blood glucose levels and detecting with more accuracy how many ketones your body has running through it.

Information is so helpful

Without this information, it’s difficult to know exactly how well your body is doing with regards to its ability to get more metabolically healthy, and to know if your body is in a state of losing weight or not.

I know that morning cortisol levels are necessarily higher so that you wake up in the morning. And, depending on how ‘good’ or ‘bad’ you were the day before, these readings could be ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Your blood won’t lie to you!

The Science (and I hated science..)

This morning, I came in at 5.5 mmol/L (glucose) and 0.2 mmol/L (ketones) – so I know that there are not enough ketones swimming around right now. The reading would need to be 0.4 mmol/L for that to be the case. So what does this mean to me this morning? I’m happy with the glucose reading – especially for the morning. My eating earlier in the day and not having a supper meal late helps a lot. And to know that I’m close to having ketones present is good. I’ll take another reading later before I eat.

I am now thinking about extending my morning fast until 3pm today to give my body more time to fast from the previous meal yesterday. This is the beauty of having read all those resources I shared and having my body adapted to be able to do this!

I stumbled upon this chart online this morning. I’m still in the yellow overweight category. I used to be in the orange obese category. So….progress!! Yay me!

I’m 5’8” and currently 179.2 lbs….yellow mellow. My goal was 160 lbs but looking at this chart….155 lbs seems to be the sweet spot. I’m in no hurry to get there. The longer it takes, the more my eating habits change for the better and the more my body adapts its set weight point. I’m going to reset it so that I can maintain my ideal weight more easily.

It’s a damn struggle though. But I’ll save that for another blog entry because that will take some unpacking to explain.
